Paris Boutique Hotels Find the Lost Generation in Saint Germain
Paris has long been a favorite destination for expatriates, and artists are no exception. Writers, painters, jazz musicians, our popular culture is rich in stories and anecdotes about the lives of famous Americans living as expatriates in Paris. In the words of the writer Gertrude Stein, these writers, based in Paris between the wars, and their contemporaries, a generation lost. However, the tradition of Paris, home of the expatriate artists, both notable and down and out, continued long after the period wars.
Legend has it that Ernest Hemingway was at the forefront of American expatriates who have returned to Paris after his release at the end of World War, and Henry Miller lived a life of poverty and debauchery in Paris during the years before World War II. More recently, the star rock singer Jim Morrison and lived in Paris until his death and, finally, his burial there. In fact, France has always been a particularly welcoming to artists and artists from more than a few Americans, and creative use of other nationalities have found their way to Paris. Many also find their greatest source of inspiration. While many have long left Paris, you can always visit their shelters and homes, and even stay in the same hotel where once stood. And stay on a charming hotel in Paris, where we know that one of our favorite writers or musicians also visited, is a unique way to explore Paris.
The period from 1920 to the late 30 between the two world wars, when the famous lost generation. At that time, the U.S. dollar has a long way and the Left Bank (Saint-Germain, Montparnasse) was the chosen destination for expatriates and artists to be. Many of them began their stay in boutique hotels in Paris can still be visited today.
In late 1921, the Nobel Prize American writer Ernest Hemingway stayed in room 14 of the Hotel Jacob when returned to Paris. In 1925, jazz musician Sidney Bechet and dancer Josephine Baker arrived in Paris to play in La Revue Black and had his first night at the Hotel Istria Paris, 29 rue Campagne Premiere, 75014 Paris. Josephine Baker became a star in Paris and Sidney Bechet lived for many years and performing in Paris.
From 1931 – 1932 the writer U.S. Henry Miller was a habitual resident in the Central Hotel, 1 bis, rue du Maine, 75014 Paris, where he stayed in rooms 38 and 40 years, living with a friend or your budget allows, a separate room. But he was in Room 40 of the hotel where they consummated their relationship with the French writer Anais Nin, who became his patron and lover for many years. It also began writing his most famous novel, "Tropic of Cancer", while living in the hotel.
Hotel, 13 rue des Beaux-Arts, 75006 Paris, not only on the average of a luxury four-star hotel in Paris, only two of his former more visitors famous is buried in the cemetery of Père Lachaise! Irish writer Oscar Wilde died in the hotel in 1900 after running a large project, and for a short time, the American rock star Jim Morrison stayed here with his girlfriend Pamela Courson, in the same room on the second floor where Oscar Wilde died, the hotel has also been named best hotel in the urban world by the magazine Harper's Bazaar in 2008.
Jim Morrison lived in Paris for a year before his death in 1971. Upon his arrival in Paris for the first time he stayed in the Hotel George V, 31 Avenue George V, 75008 Paris. But he also spent some time in Conference Room 4 in the Hotel Medici ', 214 rue Saint-Jacques, 75006 Paris. Medici Hotel was recently renovated and renamed the Little Paris.
These hotels the left margin that were favorites of the lost generation, and those who followed them, are just a small sample of schools that have welcomed visitors and newcomers to Paris in recent years. Paris is not cheap enough to attract a large number of starving artists and celebrities most visiting lodges in exclusive luxury hotels, like Jim Morrison did when he stayed in the Hotel George V upon his arrival in Paris. Today, the Hôtel Plaza Athénée 25, avenue Montaigne, 75008 Paris, Bohemian Paris is the first hotel. It was introduced in the last episode of the television series Sex and the City "An American in Paris "as the hotel where Carey Bradshaw remained in Paris. The hotel has also received a variety as U.S. noteworthies as Josephine Baker, Gary Cooper, Jackie Onassis and John F. Kennedy Kennedy Jr.
Even if you decide not to stay in one of the hotels on land left that are full of history, you can just as easily be a little closer to Paris Lost Generation to stay in a short term rental and experience Paris like a local. And when you're there, if take the time to explore the streets and alleys of Paris and later walk on the left bank of the river at night, when all is quiet, you could hear the echo of the footsteps and the murmur of its ghosts.
