Cary Grant – Comic iconic British actor

Cary Grant was one of the greatest British actors who became famous for his game and great comic timing. Archibald Alexander Leach (18 in 1904 to 29 November 1986), better known by his screen name, Cary Grant, was an English actor. With characteristic Atlantic accent, was perhaps the first example of the elegant character is not only beautiful, but also witty and charming. He was named the second biggest male star of all time by American Film Institute.

Archie Leach was born in Horfield, Bristol, England. A child (before his birth his parents had another child who died in infancy), Leach had an unhappy childhood and confusing. His mother, Elsie, was placed in a mental institution where he was nine. His father (Who later had a relationship with another woman who bore him a son) has never told the truth, and has learned in 1935 was still living in an institution.

Leach left with the insecurity in their relationships with women and hiding his inner life. These insecurities, his own admission, took him to beg for applause and care and create a new character to attract. After being expelled from Fairfield Grammar School in Bristol in 1918 (to investigate the girls' bathroom), joined the Bob Pender stage troupe. Grant traveled with the company in the United States in 1920 for a tour two years, when the group returned to England, Grant decided to stay in the U.S.

Over time, created a unique accent and character that mixes the accents of the working class and the top, while supporting each other, among other things, a street vendor.

After some success in light Broadway comedies, he came to Hollywood in 1931, where he acquired the name Cary Grant.

Grant has played in the crazy comedy classics as The Awful Truth with Irene Dunne (key film character creation screen of Grant) Bringing Up Baby with Katharine Hepburn, His Girl Friday with Rosalind Russell and Arsenic and Old Lace with Priscilla Lane. These performances solidified his appeal, and The Philadelphia Story, with Hepburn and James Stewart, presented his paper on the screen of the best known: the charming if sometimes the reliable man, formerly married to a voluntary and intelligent woman who was the first divorced and then realized it was – with all his faults – irresistible.

Grant was a horror movie box office attraction for several decades. He was a versatile actor, calling for the physical comedy in movies like Gunga Din with the skills he learned on stage. Howard Hawks said that Grant was "so far the best. No one is compared to him."

Grant was a favorite actor of Alfred Hitchcock, known for disliking actors, who said that Grant was "the only actor I ever loved in my life." Grant appeared in such classics as suspicion Hitchcock's Notorious, The Catch a Thief and North by Northwest.

In mid-1950, Grant formed his own production company, Grantley Productions, and produced a number of films Goose distributed by Universal, such as Operation Petticoat, curious, that touch of mink (co-starring Doris Day), and the Father.

Then Grant was nominated two Academy Awards in the 1940's, was denied the Oscar throughout his active career, was considered as a rebel by the fact that he was the first actor in "independent", opposing the old studio system efficiency, which controlled almost entirely what an actor could or could not do. Thus, Grant was able to control all aspects of his career. The cost is not golden statuette during their active career.

Grant finally received the long For what he deserved honors in 1970 with the special award from the Academy for Lifetime Achievement. In 1981 he received the Kennedy Center Honors.

In recent years of his life, Grant undertook a visit to the United States with "A Conversation with Cary Grant," in which he showed excerpts from his films and answer questions from the audience. It was just before one of these performances, in Davenport, Iowa, November 29, 1986, that Grant suffered a stroke (November 29, 1986) and died in hospital several hours later.

Ian Fleming said he was part Cary Grant in mind when he created his smooth superspy James Bond. The latest Bond Roger Moore has been selected to share the sense of ironic humor grant.

In November 2004, Grant was called "the greatest movie star of all Time "by Premiere magazine.
