Essential equipment for the Mobile Disk Jockey

Working as a mobile disc jockey (DJ) brings a series of challenges that resident DJ the club does not have. No less important is the need to bring all elements of the DJ wherever we go.

I worked as a radio announcer residence DJ of the club, and these days I make my living as a mobile DJ and I love it. Every week I meet new people with varied musical tastes, in some great places. I gigged in houses, on boats and yachts, private jet or even a night in a famous London museum. This is the variety that I like most about my job, but then challenge.

A major problem that we have to handle as a mobile DJ is now all the facilities we have at every concert. The club DJ has just arrived with a selection of records and CD when you need a van sized to carry all my DJ equipment.

These days, I can afford to take along a assistant to help me assemble and disassemble my light and sound at every concert. But only a few years ago, before decent start charging, I had to do all this equipment myself. A key factor to consider when choosing a mobile DJ equipment is compact it is. Ideally, it is small and light.

The DJ speakers use different power. This means no need for power amplifiers and system configuration much simpler. Cables are much less worry and less that can go wrong. For so many years I've been using a couple of really great active PA speakers JBL and these have proved worth their weight in gold.

Other key factor is lighting. Club DJs are usually no need to worry about the lighting of the club because they are often already in place and may have their own dedicated operators. Mobile DJs we have learned to do everything ourselves. But fortunately these days there are a few compact DJ LED lights that use which is relatively lightweight, low power consumption and cooling.

But I think the most important piece of DJ's music. Not is the team, I hear you say, and rightly so. But I'm really referring to the average can be vinyl, CDs, DVDs and MP3 files. This means that different media have need for turntables, CD players, DVD players and some kind of MP3 player. These days I'm a DJ CD player, a pair of Technics 1210S and my laptop has a DVD player. I travel all through my excellent DJ and I'm almost ready for any request, the Wombles Mantovani.
