World Cup- Julio Cesar will be ready for the World Cup, said Brazilian Coach
The coach of the Brazilian team, Dunga, said today that goalkeeper Julio Cesar will play in the debut of Brazil next Tuesday against North Korea in the opening of the World Cup. The goalkeeper was absent this Monday in the friendly game against Tanzania, in which Brazil took a 5-1 victory. Julio Cesar had to be replaced on Wednesday with an injury in his back during the 3-0 victory over Zimbabwe in another friendly game.
Dunga is certain and confident that his best goalkeeper will be ready for the start of the World Cup. Dunga also stated that Julio Cesar wasn’t playing against Tanzania because he intended to give him rest and additional time with the team’s physiotherapist.
“Julio Cesar will not travel to Tanzania with the Brazilian team. But he will continue working with the physiotherapist,” said Dunga.
This is the first absence of the 30 years-old goalkeeper of with the “canarinha” team since 2008. Julio Cesar had played the last 26 games with Brazil. His last absence was in the defeat against Venezuela during June 2008.
However, due to his absence in the Tanzania friendly, Julio Cesar stayed in South Africa preparing with goalkeeping coach Wendell Ramalho, and physiotherapist Odir de Souza for the first game in South Africa.
Julio Cesar had a glorious season with his club Inter Milan. The Internationale won the Italian championship, the Italian Cup and the Champions League. So there are a lot of expectations from the goalkeeper, and his two teammates Lúcio and Maicon, who were also part of the team that triumphed on the European continent.
The Brazilian goalkeeper made his debut in the first division of Brazil in 1997 with Flamengo and after nearly seven seasons in the giant Maracana, he jumped to the Italian Serie A to defend the fence of the modest Chievo Verona. His great performance with this team let him to sign during the next year with the Nerazzurri, a team who was seeking a replacement for Francesco Toldo.
With the Brazilian national team, Julio Cesar spent several years as replacement of the Milan goalkeeper, Dida. With patience, Julio Cesar endured in the shadow of Dida, playing a supporting role in numerous conquests of Brazil. In its international curriculum Julio Cesar has played in the America’s Cup 2004 and the Confederations Cup 2009.
However, after Dunga’s arrival as the head coach Julio Cesar became the number one goalkeeper in Brazil. His contribution has been very important in the title of the Confederations Cup of 2009, which was the prelude to the 2010 World Cup.
Julio Cesar will arrive at the first World Cup in Africa with very high hopes and expectations. His dedication and effort with the national team, but also his great performance with Inter Milan, and his three titles obtained with the Nerazzurri club might be a good sign for the player and his squad.
Moreover, in addition of his objective to win the sixth World Cup title with Brazil, Julio Cesar wants to win the Lev Yashin trophy for best goalkeeper of the tournament. The title was won by the Italian Gianluigi Buffon in Germany 2006 and German Oliver Kahn in Corea/Japón-2002.
Now, the team, coaches and doctors hope for the full recovery of Julio Cesar, so he can play the opening game with Brazil.
Brazil’s debut at the World Cup will be on June 15, at 15:30 (Brasilia), against North Korea.
